Before "Eureka!" became California's state motto, it was the exuberant cry of a miner on May 16, 1848, the moment he struck gold in Auburn Ravine. By 1850, 1,500 people, drawn by the hope of also striking it rich, had settled in Auburn. And by 1851, Auburn was the county seat of Placer County.
Today, Auburn is a charming blend of old and new, history and modern progress. The historic Placer County Courthouse with its distinctive gold dome, for example, houses the county's superior courts. And you might have seen Auburn in the movies, providing scenic locations for hits such as "Overboard," "Phenomenon," and "XXX."
The City of Auburn is home to 12,500 residents and an estimated 44,000 reside in the greater Auburn area. Extremely community minded, Auburn has a public library, along with active boys and girls clubs, a teen center, a skate park, and organized sports programs for all ages. A community hospital is just outside of town. And while citizens covet the small town atmosphere of Auburn and Auburn real estate, they are still close to the outside world thanks to the town's Municipal Airport, bus transit system, and a new train station providing access to the Amtrak Capitol Corridor.
The Great Outdoors
How does a leisurely hike or horseback trail ride sound? If you love the outdoors, then Auburn real estate is one of the best investments you'll ever make. Auburn's mild climate and proximity to the Auburn State Recreation Area and the American River Canyon make it a natural for boating, white water rafting, kayaking, fishing, mountain biking, camping and more. Two of Northern California's most notable events, the grueling Tevis Cup Endurance Ride for equestrians and the Endurance Run/Ultramaration, also take place in Auburn.
